Create drama in the kitchen

The choice of a two toned kitchen is becoming more and more popular. Dark islands contrasting with lighter cabinetry creates drama and presence in the kitchen space and allows for greater imagination in the planning of a new kitchen. Dark navy, black and greys paired with various shades of white are always fashionable choices as they are so versatile.

Contrast is king when it comes to mixing materials and colours in two toned kitchens; the trick is to make sure that every material used enhances the other. Brass and steel married with the look of marble and warm timbers prove a winning formula as they complement each other well with different shades of wood and metal often bringing warmth and contrast to a cold marble surface.

Although it is usually the door material or colour that is the material used to create a two toned masterpiece an alternative is to simply use contrasting materials such as timber and stone for different benchtops within a kitchen to naturally create different zones. This can not only make a kitchen more practical but aesthetically creates a visually pleasing and harmonious space to live in.

Kickboards are often utilised for the addition of a third colour in a two toned kitchen to tie the whole two toned scheme together with materials such as stainless steel and mirror being popular choices. You can see examples of this in our Harrington Kitchens showrooms and our gallery below.
