When looking at the array of wonderful kitchen projects that we get to work on each year, it can be tough to pick just one favourite. So, when it came to deciding our best modern contemporary kitchen projects from this year, our team delved deep into the process to select the five to sit at the top.
Here’s the winners for our top 5 best modern contemporary kitchens of 2022 and what helped make these projects stand out above the rest.
#1 A Dream Lifestyle Kitchen – Razorback
With a client review stating they were “beyond thrilled with the end result”, we had no doubt that this stunning project was to make our best modern contemporary kitchens list for the year.
The breathtaking views from the interior of the home were capitalised on for the design of one of our best modern contemporary kitchens. Soaring, vaulted ceilings, with natural light flowing in from skylights, created the perfect room with a view for one of the most important areas of the home.
Our designers used a modern mix of Matt Dulux White on White polyurethane for the lower cabinetry. This coupled with a fresh and classy blend of Polytec Ravine Natural Oak, which was used on the upper cabinets, created a seamless aesthetic with the sleek timber flooring.
The beautiful, spacious island benchtop with its waterfall ends, was crafted from Caesarstone Airy Concrete for a modern, subtle tone of grey. Dark appliances partnered with black tones on the sink and tapware add an understated contrast.
And for storage? A Butler’s Pantry of course, with modern cooking aids (such as a vacuum drawer) only seen in some of the best modern contemporary kitchen designs.
An abundance of space with effortless class and a working space that enables muti-uses; this was one truly unique and timeless residence.
#2 A Sleek and Stunning Two-Toned Kitchen – Kirkham
This amazing new build project is yet another example of stunning modern contemporary design being utilised throughout many areas of this showcase residence.
The kitchen and butler’s pantry utilise the latest fingerprint resistant surfaces which are not only stunning but highly practical. Low light reflectivity and opaqueness with a velvety touch ensures that the cabinetry melds with the large light filled spaces.
The kitchen features Carbon Tesrol Superclean and Fenix Grigio Effeso from Nover (which is also used throughout the butler’s pantry to give it a spacious light filled feeling).
Truffle Lini in a Finegrain finish brings a touch of glamour to the overhead cabinetry in the kitchen.
The matt, stylish texture and finish of Caesarstone’s Cloudburst Concrete adorns the 60mm benchtops and splashbacks of both the kitchen and butler’s pantry and is the perfect choice to compliment the matt cabinetry.

Muted, clean, natural tones continue throughout the home. In addition to the kitchen and butler’s pantry, the TV room, laundry and vanities, as well as the outdoor living and BBQ area, use a range of different materials and colours yet are all perfectly co-ordinated to reflect a modern contemporary theme.

#3 Partnered Perfect; Black and White Matt Kitchen – Harrington Park
Lights, cabinets, action! As one of our best modern contemporary kitchens for 2022, this design encapsulates everything that is great about the timeless blend of black and white, both in a contemporary matt finish.
Using the fingerprint-resistant finish of Tesrol Super Clean in Bianco White was a wonderful choice by our clients for ease of cleaning and maintenance. We teamed this with Laminex Absolute Matt in Stormcloud for a stunning colour combination.
The crisp, sleek appeal continues with finger-pull and push to open white cabinetry harmoniously contrasting with the dark tones and matt finishes of the wall cabinetry and door handles.
Kicks at the cabinet bases boasted a brushed stainless finish to compliment gentler hues in the grey floor tiles.
The generous-sized island bench mimics the perfectly balanced trio of black, white and grey, using Caesarstone Empira White tops and splashback to emit a refinedness and glamour throughout the room. A matt black double bowl sink sits perfectly within the crisp benchtop, alongside the Aqua Perla single mixer tap.
This kitchen is a perfect package of stunningly sleek, streamlined and modern.
Kicks at the cabinet bases boasted a brushed stainless finish to compliment gentler hues in the grey floor tiles.

#4 A Cool Coastal White Kitchen – Narellan
A stunning mix of classic white with beautiful beachy elements and an uncluttered finish, makes this design one of our best modern contemporary kitchens.
We love the modern Shark Nose Polyurethane cabinetry with its satin finish and slight shimmery, summery look. Keeping it clean is the push to open drawers and doors, with a gentle adornment of timber slimline handles to the pantry.
The timber accent continues with timber bar stools and statement rattan kitchen pendants that ooze seaside, coastal class!
Smartstone Arcadia compliments the sleek, clean cabinetry. A Franke undermount sink with polished chrome mixer is perfectly positioned with views to the outside, under the windowsill.
A beautifully classy fish scale marbled mosaic splashback continues the coastal vibe and added an element of depth and interest to the space. This is a picture perfect, white coastal kitchen!
#5 Modern Country Kitchen – Robertson
As one of our best modern contemporary kitchens this year, our clients worked with our designer for this project to create a space perfect for entertaining and with a clever use of colour and texture.
Using three Laminex colours of white, black and green helps to create a space that is modern but also naturally inspired and connected to the client’s country acreage property. A combination of different materials and textures certainly adds further character within the space.
White overhead cabinets are offset with open-faced wooden shelving and modern matt handles.
Matt Caesarstone Cloudburst Concrete and Black Temple on the benchtops, create drama with the two-toned palette of black and white. The stone benchtops in combination with 25mm timber shadow line under bench create a unique profile and aesthetic, while extending on the light and shade aspect of the design.
Neatly tucked beneath the galley cabinetry is a wine fridge, which promotes ease of access from the living space for entertaining.
The finishing feature of this kitchen is a spectacular, modern halo light that hangs from a recessed skylight. Simple, classy, and modern with timeless charm.
This is a timeless modern contemporary kitchen design that will never get boring!
