Do you want to add a little colour to your kitchen? There are so many ways to do this that will create a refreshingly unique kitchen. You can apply these simple splashes of colour whether you are starting from scratch or renovating.

Lighting – Select lights that will contrast against the rest of your kitchen. Pendant lights are really good for this purpose because you can get so many designs and colours and it is a relatively costly way to introduce a bit of colour. You can also use light to enhance the kitchen. Use multiple light sources to highlight all of the stand out colours in your kitchen.

Floors – This may not be easy for you if you are only doing minor renovations on your kitchen, but it can make all the difference. Changing the colour of your flooring while keeping the same cabinets and appliances can make it look like a totally different kitchen. If you have a light or neutral coloured kitchen, be bold and go with a bright colour for the floor.

Inside your cabinets – If you want something that is a little less permanent, add colour to the inside of your cabinets. This looks really good on cabinets with glass doors. You could either paint the inside with a bright colour or apply wallpaper. Either way you will end up with an eye-catching feature in your kitchen.

Seating – If you have stools at an island bench or your dining table is in close proximity to your kitchen, you could brighten up the space with your seating. You could go with something that compliments your current kitchen or go with something completely opposite that will stand out. You can get creative and make this your new DIY project by repurposing old stools and chairs!

Kitchen Island – Remember that your kitchen cabinets and island doesn’t always have to match. You can create a really interesting effect by having your island cabinets a different colour to the rest of your kitchen. For example, a kitchen with cabinets and bench top that are off-white could add colour with deep blue cabinets for the kitchen island.

Splash back – This is another area where you can let your creativity flow. Go for a really bright or deep colour for a striking splash back. You could even go for a mosaic with several colours in it, or a bright photo print placed behind glass.

When adding colour to your kitchen, just remember that your kitchen doesn’t have to completely match the rest of your home, this is your opportunity to get your creative juices flowing and do something bold.
