Tips on Selecting your Kitchen Cabinets

Tips on Selecting your Kitchen Cabinets

Cabinets are the focal point of the kitchen and are a primary consideration when considering your kitchens finish and functionality. Whether you are renovating your whole kitchen, or just replacing the cabinets there are several things that need to be considered before you can make the choice between the different types of cabinets.

The first thing that needs to be considered is the size and shape of your kitchen. Standard cabinets come in common width sizes from 400mm to 1200mm, and with a standard depth of 300mm for wall cabinets and 600mm for base cabinets. This is fine if you can accommodate those cabinet sizes in your kitchen, but in most houses, a custom kitchen would be best as it is made to fit and makes the most of the space that you have.

One advantage of using standard kitchen cupboard sizes is that there is a broad range of accessories such as corner cupboard pull outs and carousels. Here at Harrington Kitchens we use Hettich for all of our kitchen accessories and they provide us with great storage solutions such as the Innotech double-walled drawer systems. These come in standard or customs sizes, and can be fitted into any custom kitchen made by Harrington Kitchens.

Cabinets can be floor mounted or wall mounted. Wall mounted cupboards are very popular at the moment because of their sleek and modern look. Cabinets can come in various depths, depending on their positioning, and the area in which they need to fit.

One of the most popular and practical cupboards in any kitchen is a pantry. There are so many new options to save space in a pantry. You can now get pull out pantries and multiple pull out shelves to make the most of a small pantry space. Another great space saver is the swivelling pantry unit which allows you to have easy access to all things in your pantry.

The most important thing to know when you decide to remodel your kitchen is that the outcome will be right for you and your home. A very informative post thank you. You have mentioned a lot of good points. The main points to consider as you have mentioned, is the size of the cabinets, the space you have to fit the cabinets into and what will the cabinets hold. You need to make sure they are all accessible. so if its a drawer or cupboard that you use a lot make sure that its at a height that won’t strain your back on a day to day basis. Its all about organisation and planning. Making sure you have a good workflow for yourself throughout the kitchen.

Nice tips. Just to add up, always go with the trends. There has been a rise in paneling appliances and hiding them rather than showing them off, which was the former trend.
